I was trying to install NBA Live 2006 on my computer but it fails to upgrade my DirectX driver from 9.0b to 9.0c (required by the game). The thing that immediately comes to my mind is to download DirectX 9.0c from Microsoft website and install it manually, but unfortunately it fails...
This time I ask Mr. Google (or Miss if you prefer so) for answers but never found one so I decided to make my own. I do not guarantee if this solution will work on your system but I already tried this method in eight (8) of my computers at our LAN shop.
What you need?
DirectX 9.0c, DirectX Happy Uninstall, DirectX Uninstall v3.85, and Windows XP CD (SP1 or later)
The Procedure
Before we start you must remember that you only have to this workaround if you are having problems upgrading you DirectX 9.0b using the DirectX 9.0c. If your ready just follow the step-by-step procedures below:
Step 1. Install DirectX Happy Uninstall
Step 2. Extract and run DirectX Uninstall v3.85. The system will ask to restart your computer, please do so.
Step 3. Look for the 'Rollback DirectX Uninstall' on your desktop screen. Double-click it to run. The program will ask for the location of Windows XP CD or installer, locate it to start the rollback process (During rollback process, the software is trying to install DirectX 8.1 from the CD). After the installation, restart you computer.
Step 4. Go to Start>Programs>DirectX Happy Uninstall and run the program. Click rollback/restore button and select 'Install DirectX 9.0c to your Windows XP' option. Click Next to point the location of DirectX 9.0c installer (you must extract first this file after downloading). After the installation of DirectX 9.0c, restart computer for the last time.
Step 5. Verify if the upgrade was successful by going to Start>Run and type 'dxdiag' then enter. It should display DirectX version 9.0c now
